Winfield Scott Harvey diary [microform], 1868-1870.

Account of Harvey's involvement in Troop K, 7th U. S. Cavalry's march from Ft. Larned to Ft. Dodge, Kan., thence into Indian Territory to fight at the Battle of Washita. Included is a report of the battle and a letter of praise from Gen. George Custer. In 1870, he was at Fort Harker and Hays and Camp Sturgis.

Custer's paternal ancestors, Paulus and Gertrude Küster, came to the North American English colonies around 1693 from the Rhineland in Germany, probably among thousands of Palatines whose passage was arranged by the English government to gain settlers in New York and Pennsylvania.
